You do not see your dentist every day, so you need to do your part to keep your teeth healthy through daily dental health habits. Brushing your teeth and flossing establishes a good foundation for your dental health.
BRUSHING YOUR TEETH
The American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth at least twice a day—once in the morning and once at night, before going to bed. This is a suggested minimum—brushing after every meal is ideal.
When you brush your teeth, spend at least three minutes so and used an ADA-approved toothbrush and toothpaste. Keep in mind that your gums are delicate—avoid a stiff-bristled toothbrush. A soft-or medium-bristled toothbrush will do the job. And try to choose a toothpaste with fluoride for maximum cavity prevention.
FLOSSING
The American Dental Association recommends flossing at least once a day. Again, this is a suggested minimum—flossing more often is ideal. Flossing helps to clean between your teeth, getting rid of any materials brushing left behind, and preventing your gums from getting inflamed.
